Science is theme for summer reading program
Teen summer reading program: ‘Spark a Reaction’
Prescott Valley Library Teen Librarian Jolanta Feliciano has announced an interactive pilot program with Maricopa County's reading program.

A new open-source platform will allow all teens to register online, log their reading, earn badges, pick an avatar, add points for participation in events, and more. Registration is online at www.prescott.mcldaz.org.

Free special events for teens at the Prescott Valley Library during the summer include:

June 12, 3 p.m., Indiana Bones.

June 17, 1 p.m., Growing Crystals.

June 19, 1 p.m., Rockets and Robots.

June 20, 10 a.m., Dog Agility Show.

June 26, 2 p.m., Jolly Roger.

July 2, 1 p.m., Make a Kaleidoscope.

July 8, 2 p.m., Crime Scene Investigation.

July 10, 1 p.m., Traveling Magic Show.

July 14-15, 1 p.m., Upcycling Board Games.

July 17, 1 p.m., Paper Sculptures.

July 22, 1 p.m., Bug Jewelry.

July 24, 2 p.m., Steps Junk Funk.

Teens can sign up to read 10 books between May 22 and July 26 to receive an award and a chance to win a grand prize.

The Friends of the PV Library help support teen events and programs; the online project is supported by the Maricopa County Library District and the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, and with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

This year's Children's Summer Reading program, "Fizz, Boom, Read," offers activities for children ages 3-11 on Tuesday mornings at the Prescott Valley Public Library. Only 125 tickets are available per performance and are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tuesday, June 17, at 10 or 11:30 a.m., join Ric Fout for balloon art, reading, and storytelling.

Tuesday, June 24, at 10 or 11 a.m. experience the science of entertainment involving music, stories and audience participation with Tom and Shondra.

Tuesday, July 1, at 10 a.m. only, join us for the science of music with Sticks and Tones as they present creative music-making with a scientific theme.

Tuesday, July 8, at 10:30 a.m. only, Mad Science presents "Fire and Ice," a spectacular show of scientific exploration with dry ice fog storms, bubbling potions, and amazing chemical reactions.

Tuesday, July 15, from 1:30-4:30 p.m., Fun With Gizmos and Gadgets takes place with small groups designing marble ramps. All materials provided.

Tuesday, July 22, at 10 or 11 a.m., the Gurley Girls present a musical puppet show filled with the silly antics of Amelia, a caterpillar and a dog.

The Summer Reading program ends July 26. The Town of Prescott Valley, Friends of the Prescott Valley Public Library, Del Taco and Trader Joe's have provided donations for this program.
