Appropriately housed in the Humboldt Station storefront - complete with boardwalk and hitching posts - Urban Cowgirlz opened in mid-May and caters to equestrian fashionistas.

Co-owners Joan McGivern and Ruth Montgomery found the storefront space on Main Street and Highway 69, Humboldt, in April and said, "Let's do it." They had talked about opening a store since they met as members of the Desert Rose Dancers.

"And here we are," said Montgomery, a resident of Prescott Country Club, Dewey, since 2005. "It's been incredible."

McGivern had more than 20 years as a buyer and manager of a store in Fountain Hills before moving to Dewey two years ago. She has extensive knowledge of designers and vendors, and more than 40 years modeling experience.

She also works with clients in and out of state as a personal shopper, putting together wardrobes based on an individual's figure and personal style.

The store contains racks of clothing, sparkly belts, purses, jewelry and Western décor, some created by local artists. Sizes range from 0-18, but customers can order 1x and 2x sizes.

McGivern said she carries jeans that stay true to a younger look, but have a better fit for more mature figures and are less expensive than designer jeans that often can cost $120. A rack of 70 percent off clothing extends from the entrance toward the back of the store. Shoppers can find Tru Luxe jeans and Christine Alexander clothing and accessories, and the store soon will carry Rhonda Stark cowboy boots and Cowgirl Up fashions.

Urban Cowgirlz is open Wednesday through Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. or by appointment. For more information, call 928-632-5447 or visit the store at 2735 S. Highway 69, Suite 8, Humboldt.

Wonderful article written by Sue Tone, she captured Urban Cowgirlz to a "T". Wonder if Sue could do a follow-up article on Urban Cowgirlz since they have moved to a different location at 150 S. St. Hwy 69, Suite 11, Dewey, next door to Leff'ts Steakhouse. This location is almost 3 times the size of Humboldt and we have lots more to offer.

This was a great article on Urban Cowgirlz, but unfortunately or fortunately for Urban Cowgirlz, we have moved our shop to 150 S. St. Hwy 69, Suite 11, next door to Leff'ts Steakhouse in Dewey.
