The Prescott Valley Public Library teen librarian invites families for an afternoon of special gaming programs and events from 1-4 p.m. today and next Wednesday, Nov. 27, in the Crystal Room to celebrate International Games Day at Your Library.

The semi-finals for the teen library's video games tournament is today; however, Teen Librarian Yolanta Feliciano said new players still can show up, play, and qualify in the tournament. Pre-registration is not mandatory.

Feliciano said about 30 teens show up on Wednesday afternoons after school lets out early. She welcomes adults, especially if they bring a board game or two and stick around to teach the younger players.

"Libraries are more than just books," Feliciano said. "It's also sitting down and being social; it's cross-generational."

She hopes to develop regularly scheduled activities for every day of the week, including a day for chess.

On some afternoons and evenings, tutors are available to help students with homework. Currently, the math tutor is available Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 6-8 p.m., and the science tutor on Friday afternoons. No appointment is necessary. Feliciano said she has someone interested in providing students with language arts and literature homework help, but hasn't set up a schedule yet.

For more information, call Jolanta (pronounced Yolanta) Feliciano at 928-759-3042.
