Two brothers working on their Eagle Scout award are making tracks to the top of Glassford Hill to 'scout' out wildlife and natural landmarks. Their project is to provide signage for hikers at the beginning and end of the newly-built Glassford Hill Trail and also at switchbacks along the way.

Prescott Valley Charter School students open habitat garden
The Prescott Valley Charter School's Youth Chamber opened its long-awaited Schoolyard Habitat on May 21 before a standing-room-only audience. The garden, a Learn and Serve-funded project, is located at 9500 Lorna Lane, behind the high school's main academic building. The project took a full year to complete.

Home & Garden Show draws thousands
Vendors said they were heartened by sales and inquiries from crowds at the 2010 Home and Garden Show at Tim's Toyota Center this past weekend.

The three-day event, sponsored by the Yavapai County Contractors Association, drew "just shy of 16,000" attendees, said YCCA Executive Director Sandy Griffis.

Students at Lake Valley Elementary School leaped into track season after Mitchell Weinzinger, 16, built a long-jump box as his Eagle Scout project.

Mitch, a sophomore at Tri City Prep, said he was desperately looking for a project for the award.

Five years ago, while still living in California, Warren Root saw on the news an odd, yet strangely familiar, contraption. It was a common plastic resin lawn chair - on wheels.

The wheelchairs, simply designed with durable, ordinary parts, could be shipped around the world and easily assembled for only $59.20.

Fit folks who've finished their own home improvement projects have the opportunity to help their less-than-able-bodied neighbors.

Those folks can volunteer for the Town of Prescott Valley's "Good Works Crew" through the Community Services Department.

The all-volunteer organization assists people who are unable to maintain their residential properties because of age or disability.

Prescott Valley 20-year-old raises her younger brother
One day when Paul Jenkins was 16, he thought he could get away with skipping his chores before school. But when he got home, his sister, Christina, 20, grounded him from using the car for a few days.

"I told him he could walk to school or ride the bus. It was his choice," Christina said.

Paul chose to ride the bus.
