"My APS work was just a gift," said Johnsen, who retired in April after 34 years with the company.

Some original residents of Prescott Valley remember the late Ken Renken selling property lots back in the late 1960s, and are saddened to learn one of the town's founding fathers is gone. |
Renken, 83, died May 6 in Kindred Hospital in Peoria after a brief illness.

Leon Leyson lived through some of the darkest days of World War II, surviving the Holocaust with the help of Oskar Schindler.|
Leyson, now 80, was 13 when he joined his father and brother at a factory run by Schindler in Krakow, Poland.

Michael Mahany, performer and music educator, will present his annual student piano recital at Prescott Community Church, 3151 Willow Creek Road, Prescott, on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m. |
The program will feature 20 Mahany Piano Arts students of varying ages and levels performing classical, jazz, pop and original piano music.
Three of the students performing on Saturday are recent Prescott Fine Arts Association scholarship winners. They are Espen Yates, 15; Stephanie Riviere, 15, and Daniel Carlisi, 13.

|Knotek tops age category for Punt, Pass & Kick|
With all 32 NFL teams reporting results, the Arizona Cardinals' representative in the National Punt, Pass and Kick contest, Derek Knotek, holds the No. 1 ranking in the 10/11-year-old category. That means he will return to the National Finals next month. He placed second at Nationals in January of this year as a 9-year-old.|
Derek's family lives in Prescott, where his dad, Jeff, is a member of the Prescott Fire Department. Derek now is a fifth-grader at Granite Mountain Middle School, but through fourth-grade, he attended Mountain View Elementary in Prescott Valley, where his mother, Staci, teaches music.

Dora Tucker Houfek knew her family was throwing her a 75th birthday bash at The Villages at Lynx Creek in January. What she didn't know was who would attend. She wasn't surprised family members traveled from Nebraska, her home state. What astonished Houfek, who has lived in Prescott Valley since 1999 and in the park for three years, was when 20-year-old grandson, Caleb Baber, walked in her door from Norfolk, Neb., the day before her party.|
