Emmanuel Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran churches in Prescott Valley recently received $5,000 "Lutheran Community Matthew 25: Neighbors in Need" grants from the Thrivent Financial Foundation. The funding was awarded based on the churches' effectiveness in addressing physical, emotional and/or spiritual needs in the local community such as food, clothing, shelter, fellowship, and care for the sick based on Jesus' words in Matthew 25: 35-36.

Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church also will participate in a complementary two-to-one challenge grant program sponsored by the Foundation. For every dollar raised by them from donors by Nov. 30, 2014, the Thrivent Financial Foundation will provide an additional 50 cents - up to $5,000.

"We are delighted to assist Emmanuel Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church through this grant, said Richard Kleven, vice president of the Thrivent Financial Foundation. "We trust that this support will strengthen their ministry to those they serve."

"Trinity Lutheran Church is so blessed with this grant for our Friends of Ruth ministry! It will allow us to continue to provide emotional, physical and spiritual support for so many homebound people. The Friends of Ruth ministry is not fully funded by Trinity and these funds helped us at a critical time. Prayerfully we'll be able to raise additional funds through the '2-for-1' match program", said Trinity Lutheran executive assistant Lana Kirkeeng. "Our mission is 'Caring through Christ' and these funds will allow us to continue to provide that care through the remainder of 2014."
