October weather and the designation of Arts and Humanities Month align perfectly for an outdoor event for all ages at the Prescott Valley Civic Center grounds. The one-day Fall Fest 2013 opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, and continues throughout the day until 5 p.m.
The PV Arts and Culture Commission has lined up live entertainment, juried arts show, youth arts and crafts activities, an inflatable village for the kids, and a beer garden.
Contests include Pumpkin Art, in which participants bring an already-completed pumpkin for judging and display with registration fee of $5. People can carve, paint, and/or decorate their pumpkins for prizes in four categories. Each category will have cash prizes for first-third place. Prize monies are dependent upon minimum entries. Registration deadline is Oct. 2.
The Corn Toss (bean bag) Tournament is a first this year as one of the hottest outdoor games across the United States. Two-person teams pay $50 to vie for cash prize awards for first-third place. The contest includes round-robin seeding pool play leading to the double elimination tournament for cash prizes. Businesses and organizations can enter the Corn Toss for $100 and have their logo on a set of corn toss boards in addition to a single team entry into tournament. Registration deadline is Oct. 2.
Returning this year, but on a slightly smaller scale, is the Giant Paint Me mural. Participants apply paint to a huge canvas - or first to themselves, then to the canvas - to create an abstract painting. Water hoses to wash off paint will be available.
