Enhance wildlife habitat in Saturday event

Another great opportunity to get outdoors and help enhance wildlife habitat takes place north of Flagstaff on Saturday, Aug. 17, with the Arizona Antelope Foundation and the Arizona Game and Fish Department again on board.

The group will be working in the Sacred Mountain and Wupatki area of the Coconino National Forest and on an Arizona Department of Transportation right-of-way adjacent to Highway 89. Volunteers will remove old right-of-way fencing along Highway 89 and modify nearby pasture fences.

Research studies have shown these actions will increase pronghorn movement between the west and east sides of the highway and will improve opportunities for local pronghorn to get water, forage and also improve genetic diversity.

This is a one-day work project that will meet at camp at 8 a.m. Bring work gloves, lunch, snacks, water and personal gear. The Arizona Antelope Foundation will provide dinner to all volunteers on Saturday evening.

Please RSVP to info@azantelope.org. For more information on the project, call Glen Dickens at 520-247-4907. For directions and a map, visit http://azantelope.org/Events_Calendar/Highway_89/highway_89.html.
