Ammon Montes, 11, put together 50 care packs with toothbrushes and floss for homeless and underserved patients this past month as part of the Smile Project through Prescott Dentistry.
Ammon, a Boy Scout with Prescott Valley Troop 7093, along with 20 community volunteers and dental hygienists, helped his father, Dr. Sergio Montes, and Dr. Dale Ring donate more than $10,000 in time and procedures.
Prescott Dentistry opened its doors to 40 local underserved and homeless people for a day of free dental care on June 28. Ammon also helped out by setting up a kids' zone area where children played as the dentists worked on their parents. This service project helped him earn one of his merit badges.
"These types of community events build relationships with neighbors, and this is what makes the tri-city area such a great place to live," Dr. Montes said.
