Teachers from Humboldt Unified School District make up nine of the 15 finalists for Yavapai County Teacher of the Year. Eighteen more made the nomination list.
The Yavapai County Education Foundation will announce the top teachers in six categories district, charter, and private schools on Friday, May 10, during the 19th Annual Yavapai County Teacher of the Year awards ceremony and banquet at the Prescott Resort.
Organized by the YCEF, this event brings together educators and their supporters from virtually every community in Yavapai County to publicly recognize teachers' achievements and successes.
Administrators and school leaders nominate outstanding teachers who then complete a rigorous application and interview process. Community leaders and former educators interview the nominees and select three finalists for each of the six categories.
The finalists from HUSD are: Lake Valley Elementary teacher Karen Messenlehner in the preK-3rd grade category; Humboldt Elementary teacher Katie Jones and Glassford Hill Middle teacher Chris Dalpiaz in the grades 4-8 category; Sheryl McCully from Bradshaw Mountain in the high school category.
In the cross grades category are Laura Russo from Bradshaw Mountain Middle School, and Mary Supergan from Glassford Hill Middle.
Michael Lewis, Mountain View Elementary, and John Colgan, Glassford Hill Middle, are nominated as Outstanding First-Year Teacher.
Brandi Schaible, Del Rio Elementary, is a finalist from the Chino Valley Unified School District. Two teachers from the Prescott Unified School District are finalists: Penny Nicholas from Washington Traditional, and Melissa Townsend from Prescott High School.
The 2013 nominees for Teacher of the Year from HUSD are: Trisha Budd, Lisa Busk, Darlene Carino, Tiffany Church, Jessica Desjadon, Deborah Galliers, Kristi Goeke, Ashley Gordon, Kori Huibregtse, Ryan Ingram, LeAnn Jack, Sally Mason, Tiffany Peterson, Cristina Poeppel, Sunshine Rhone, Sean Rietz, Darrell Rowader, and Brent Welsh.
