Walkers, many of them accompanied by their canine buddies, will take to the sidewalks around Mountain Valley Regional Hospital in Prescott Valley from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27. They will be participating in the Paws for Parkinson's Dog Walk and Lifestyle Expo. A fundraising event organized through the Arizona Chapter of the American Parkinson Disease Association, the day promises to be an entertaining and enjoyable way to raise funds for the 1,000 people in Yavapai County who are living with Parkinson disease.

As presenting and host sponsors respectively, Yavapai Regional Medical Center (YRMC) and Mountain Valley Regional Rehabilitation Hospital (MVRRH) have provided major support for this event. The handicapped-accessible walking course begins and ends at MVRRH in Prescott Valley and accommodates relaxed amblers and energetic striders alike. Cheerleaders, trailblazers, dog lovers - everyone who wants to support people with Parkinson's disease in Yavapai County can take a role in the fun, walking as far as 1.6 miles or as near as just a few steps. With or without a dog, everyone is welcome to join in. Medtronic and Highgate Senior Living support the event and Alta Vista Retirement Community will provide complimentary shuttle service between the Expo and parking area and will maintain a rest stop along the walk route, offering water and dog treats.

The event host, MVRRH, is also the site of the Paws Lifestyle Expo, which will include exhibits and activities for humans and pooches alike - prizes, drawings, contests, music, gifts and refreshments.

To register as a Paws participant, call 202-7952 or email JudyTalley@ernesthealth.com to receive a registration form and further information. Once registered, participants will be provided forms to easily invite everyone they know to make contributions to APDA AZ in their name. For members of APDA, a $25 donation is requested. For non-members of APDA a $35 donation - is requested and includes free APDA membership. Register as an individual or couple. Of course, anyone can walk with you.

Also contact Talley to make a donation of cash, a prize or gift to be used during the event, or to learn more about additional sponsorship opportunities.

Prizes will be awarded to the individual walker who raises the most money and the team of four walkers that raises the most in total donations. The Lifestyle Expo at MVRRH will include raffles, drawings, contests, awards, music, gifts and refreshments during the day for people and pups alike.

Funds from the Paws Walk will assist people affected by Parkinson disease throughout Yavapai County, primarily in the greater Prescott area.
