D-H Butte Street ribbon-cutting next Tuesday

The public is invited to join Dewey-Humboldt Mayor Terry Nolan, the town council, the Open Space and Trails Committee, APS and Friends of the Library to celebrate the grand opening of Butte Street Park, the Town's first park, at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

Butte Street Park is located in the Butte Street right-of-way between Prescott and Phoenix Streets.

Public welcome to Friends of PV Library meeting and potluck

The November meeting and potluck luncheon of the Friends of the Prescott Valley Public Library takes place at noon on Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Crystal Room. Following the meeting, the group will elect officers for the 2013 board.

League of Women Voters updates juvenile justice Nov. 17

The topic for November's meeting of the League of Women Voters of Central Yavapai County is an update on juvenile justice by guest speaker and director of the Yavapai County Juvenile Justice Center, Paul Gabaldon. Open and free to the public, the meeting is 9:30-11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at Las Fuentes Resort Village, 1035 Scott Drive, Prescott.

Living with Loss during the holidays

The Senior Connection invites seniors and family caregivers to attend a free presentation on the topic of "Living With Loss During the Holidays" on from 1:30-2:30 p.m., on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3950 N. Valorie Drive in Prescott Valley, and again from 12-1 p.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at American Lutheran Church, 1085 Scott Drive in Prescott.

The holiday season can be especially difficult for those who are struggling with the loss of a loved one. Adam Bissell, grief counselor with Good Samaritan Society, will provide practical, compassionate tips for those who are coping with loss and those who'd like to know how best to offer support.

Social Media 101 Workshop

The Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce and Heather Hermen, owner of Front Burner Media, will present Social Media 101, a free workshop for businesses about social media basics, from 1 to 3:30 p.m., on Friday, Nov. 9, in the Crystal Room at the Prescott Valley Library

Heather Hermen brings years of social media technology, marketing and public relations experience to the table. She was the Director of Public Relations at the Sedona Chamber of Commerce & Tourism Bureau for more than three years and developed its social media policies, procedures and strategies.

Veterans Aid Program explained

A guest speaker from the Veteran's Administration Office of Prescott will talk about veterans' benefits, state and federal programs for seniors, and more, at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 14, at Granite Gate Senior Living, 3850 N. Highway 89, Prescott. There are financial options that can help cover the cost of assisted living for veterans or their spouses. For more information or to RSVP, call 771-8200.

Music winners perform in free public concert Tuesday

Winners of the Yavapai Symphony Guild's Young Musicians competition will perform at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at the Prescott Adult Center, 1280 E. Rosser Street. The concert is free and open to the public, contributions to the Guild's Young Musicians' Scholarship Fund and the Music Memory Program are accepted and appreciated.

Torah class

The Hasid Jewish Congregation will conduct a Torah Class at noon on Sunday, Nov. 25, at Chabad Rabbi Levertov, 1300 N. Stoneridge Drive, Prescott Valley. For more information call 928-642-3659.

Catholic Charities seeks tax volunteers

Catholic Charities Community Services seeks volunteers to help those in need receive free tax preparation services.

Tax preparers, greeters and site coordinators are needed. No experience is necessary. Catholic Charities Community Services provides all the training and materials.
