Prescott YMCA Youth Ballet announces Nutcracker auditions

Area boys and girls ages five and older are invited to audition from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 24, for the Prescott YMCA's second annual Nutcracker Ballet season.

Artistic Director Myrta George will conduct auditions at Prescott Gateway Mall in Suite 222, across from Macayo's. Youth chosen for the dance troupe will perform selections from the ballet in December at the YMCA and Prescott Gateway Mall.

• 9 to 9:30 am - ages 5 through 7 - for six mice (girls and boys) and six Ginger girls;

• 9:30 am to 11:30 am - ages 8 through 12 - eight boys and girls as soldiers, plus Chinese and Russian Dancers, heroine Clara, the Nutcracker and King Mouse;

• 11:30 am to 12:30 pm - ages 13 and up - Fifteen girls' roles including Spanish dance, Arabian dance, Toy Flutes, Sugar Plum Fairy, and Flowers with Dewdrop. This last session also will include auditions for an adult female to dance the role of Mother Ginger.

An audition registration form and a parent information packet is available by emailing ballet@prescottymca.org or stopping by the Guest Services Desk near the Food Court at Prescott Gateway Mall. Those auditioning are asked to arrive 15 minutes prior to their sessions to sign in and receive a number.

The 2013 holiday Nutcracker Ballet season will kick off at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 3, in the YMCA Main Building Gymnasium. Prescott Gateway Mall performances will be Saturday, Dec. 7, and Sunday, Dec. 8, at 2 pm and 4 pm each day in the Dillard's Court.

Thanks to sponsorships from Prescott YMCA, BBVA Compass Bank and Prescott Gateway Mall, all performances will be free to the public. Seating will be limited and first-come, first-served in both locations.
