Don't expect to belly up to the bar at Barr Sports. This storefront shop along Highway 69 west of Robert Road is not a sports bar. Instead, the small space is packed with professional team jerseys, caps, pennants, mugs, stickers and other memorabilia to make a sports fan's heart beat faster.

Brothers Justin and Kris Barr own and manage Barr Sports, which opened Feb. 7.

Other than a rack of sports jerseys hanging by the side of the highway advertising their business, they've managed to attract a number of customers without too much advertising.

"There's a lot of sports people in this town," Kris Barr said. "All our prices beat everything they have," he added, referring to other stores that also carry team clothing and items.

The Barrs sell their jerseys for $60, compared to $150 found at mall stores, Kris said. The favorite in this area appears to be Raiders attire and the Larry Fitzgerald No. 11 Arizona Cardinals jerseys.

They also take orders for custom shirts made, with personalized names and numbers, for $120.

If customers can't find a particular team item on the racks or shelves, the brothers will place an order and call the customer when it comes in.

Hours of operation for Barr Sports, 8098 E. Highway 69, are Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. For more information, call 928-642-8138.

Kris & Justin are great and very helpful. So nice to have a different option for sports stuff. If you haven't been in to see them yet or check out the store, do it. Support this small business in the area.
