Letter: What Garden?

Editor:

Attending the "Home and Garden" show at Tim's Toyota Center over the weekend was exceedingly disappointing to anyone who has ever actually had the pleasure of going to a REAL Home and Garden Show.

REAL Home and Garden shows are educational as well as commercial - they have speakers that talk about home improvement projects. They have non-profits like the Master Gardener Association who are there to give advice on native plants and dealing with insect problems. They actually have something related to gardens.

This show had two landscapers and somebody selling rocks. Where's the Garden? This "show" was one big commercial venture with no educational component. The whole "HOME" concept was amorphous. Yes, there were lots of contractors there handing information out about water systems, air conditioning and carpet cleaning, but there were several booths for insurance salesmen, realtors, and politicians. POLITICIANS?

On top of it all the spacing in the Toyota Center was crunched together so that one person in a wheelchair caused major blockage - obviously someone was more concerned about squeezing in as many paying exhibitors as possible than in giving the participants room to maneuver.

Calling this a "Home and Garden Show," in my opinion, was false advertising.

Spot on! Rose.
If you have NEVER been to a Home and Garden show then this would have been ok to you. This was absolutely not a "garden" show. More home improvement - if you were looking for something to do in your house.
What happened to the so called garden centers in Prescott and Prescott Valley? Why did they not come out and show what they have? Too costly for them? I do not need anything for my house, no security, water systems, solar of rocks? I wanted to see landscaping at its best and to buy something for my garden.
Agree with you Rose - politicians at a "home and garden" show? We walked the complete show in less than 10 minutes and went home. There were wonderful jacuzzi's outside with no agent in sight. How does that work if you want to sell them?
