2/13/2013 11:57:00 AM Letter: Cheer teams were dedicated, brave
I took in the state championship cheer competition at Tim's Toyota Center Feb. 2. Being the grandmother of cheerleaders and gymnastics competitors through the years has given me a solid understanding of the dedication supporting these young people.
I was sincerely overwhelmed by the realization that only a few will go home with a trophy, but not one person in that building went home anything less than a winner. The amount of dedication, team cooperation, competitive spirit, fearlessness and bravery just blew me away! Watching the "flyers" thrown so high it made my heart stop made me think of how brave and trusting they have to be ... how team-minded they have been to perfect those stunts. I know the hours of practice, and the financial responsibility that goes into each student, as well as the dedication that remains so prevalent in each life and the support that has to take place at the school level.
What an awesome bunch of kids. Of course, I am personally proud of the Chino Valley Cougars for placing third in the state! Congratulations to all of you and to your wonderful coaches and support team.
But for each and all of the competitors, I say a hearty congratulations for your successful endeavors. You all just amaze me.
