Bradshaw softball loses back-and-forth affair
Prescott Valley Tribune

Goldwater 10

Bradshaw 9, 9 inn.

The Bears led 1-0 after one inning Monday in Phoenix and grabbed a ninth-inning lead but weren't able to close the deal.

After trailing by three runs in the seventh, the Bears rallied to force extra innings. They then took the lead in the top of the ninth when Hannah Fouss led off with a single, Brittany Flanigan reached on an error, and Lacie Denny then bunted them over to second and third. Madison Rubio then hit a single to plate the go-ahead run.

But Goldwater scored two in the bottom half to win it.

Rubio went 4-for-6 from the plate with two runs scored, and also had a stellar day pitching, allowing only three earned runs and two walks while striking out eight.

And although Bradshaw tallied 18 total hits as a team, 10 fielding errors only helped Goldwater.

Nichole Paterno batted 3-for-6 with three runs scored. Tina Fritts, Haley Young and Annie Clifford each collected two hits.

The Bears (8-18 overall) will close out the 2014 season today on Senior Night as Marcos de Niza visits the Prescott Valley field. First pitch is at 3:45 p.m.
