The Bradshaw Mountain girls' tennis team is 2-0 in 4A-I West Valley region play following a pair of home wins this past week, and 3-0 overall.
"We are off to the kind of start I was hoping we would be able to achieve," said BMHS coach Scott Terry.
The Lady Bears took their home opener 6-3 against Agua Fria March 2 under sunny skies. Thursday, Peoria experienced more gloom than the gray, gusty afternoon provided as Bradshaw blanked its visitors 9-0.
Tuesday, the No. 2 doubles team of Delaina Harris and Sellena Murray coasted to an 8-3 victory, while Kaitlyn Hesketh and Haley Rhodes, playing No. 3 doubles, came from behind to take a 9-8 victory.
Singles wins came from the rackets of No. 2 Kelsey Chambers, No. 3 Naomi Nugent, No. 4 Arielle Miller and No. 5 Kaitlyn Hesketh. Joylynn Sears led the junior varsity to a 5-4 win, coming back from a 0-3 deficit.
In the second contest of the week, Harris, playing No. 1, was leading 6-2, 3-0 when her opponent retired.
Chambers and Nugent each won in straight sets with 6-0, 6-0 scores. Miller triumphed 6-3, 6-0, and Hesketh and Murray had identical 6-0, 6-1 wins.
Chambers and Nugent stretched their doubles match to a 9-8 (4) tiebreaker victory in a back-and-forth contest.
Harris and Miller took the No. 2 doubles match 8-3, and Hesketh and Rhodes won 8-1 at No. 3.
Weather permitting, this week's matches include Dysart (away) on Tuesday, and home against Copper Canyon tomorrow.
