Bradshaw Mountain soccer teams give a helping hand
Bradshaw Mountain High School soccer teams gathered more than 100 bags of clothing during the season to donate to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Charity. Thursday a delivery truck arrived and picked up the clothing as the teams formed a human chain to load it into the truck.

For last week's rival game at Prescott billed as "Box Out for Breast Cancer," the Bradshaw Mountain girls' basketball team wore special t-shirts in warmups that blared in bright pink, "Bear Down on Cancer." But it was the Badgers' stifling full-court press and half court man-to-man trap defense that bore down relentlessly on the Bears in a 65-40 rout at the Dome.

Borzello is BMHS Coach of Year; McKeown, assistant
It came as no surprise this past Tuesday night when Bradshaw Mountain Athletic Director Maury Ruble announced the school's coaches had voted boys' tennis coach Joe Borzello Coach of the Year.

"The award is for excellence on and off the field of competition," Ruble said.

In his fourth year at the helm, Borzello took his team to a fourth place finish at the State tournament, in the team's fourth consecutive appearance in the final four.

English and basketball 'body English' - Maury Ruble's legacy
Maury Ruble was "scared to death" when he came from Iowa as a 23-year-old to teach freshman English and coach at Bradshaw Mountain High School.

That was 15 years ago and Ruble no longer fears the future, even though he resigned as the school's athletic director without having accepted another job.

Bradshaw's Borzello is boys' tennis Coach of the Year

After the Bradshaw Mountain boys' tennis team's stellar season, coach Joe Borzello's peers in the West Valley 4A-I Region voted him Tennis Coach of the Year.

"Of course, it's more the team's achievement than my own, but still, it's quite an honor," Borzello said.

The Bears won the conference title in their first year moving up to 4A-Division I from 4A-D-II, on the heels of two straight titles in their previous region.

Sandberg brings home new 'disc' for 4th place throw

Although Dallas Sandberg placed ninth in disc at the 4A-I State Tack & Field Meet Saturday, he brought home a new metal disc - a medal for his fourth place finish in shotput.

The Bradshaw Mountain senior's 51-foot-11.5-inch shot heave was just one inch out of third place. The winning throw was 53-3.5.

Sandberg tossed the discus 133-feet-6-inches. First place was 159-4.

Coach proud of tennis team; wins region again

The Bradshaw Mountain boys' tennis team made it to the semi-final round of the State Team Tennis Tournament Friday before running into a brick wall called the Prescott Badgers.

Prescott won the afternoon match 5-1 at Glendale's Paseo Racquet Center.

The Badgers couldn't scale the even higher Catalina Foothills brick wall in the following day's finals, losing 5-0 to the perennial powerhouse from Tucson.
