Special to the Tribune

The Prescott Valley Hitmen traveled to Mesquite High School in Gilbert on April 26 for their final games of the spring season. They ended the season with a bang.

The Mighty Mite Hitmen, Kinder-2nd graders, played against the Phoenix Cardinals. They tied in the regular season so both teams came out fighting hard. The Hitmen prevailed and ended their season with a 26-6 win.

Up next was the Junior Pee Wee, third- and fourth-graders, game. The Junior Pee Wee Hitmen played against the Laveen Bulldogs. The Hitmen fell behind 12-0 in the first quarter, but never gave up and fought back to tie the game.

Then, with just 10 seconds remaining in the game, and possesion of the football to the Hitmen at midfield, the Prescott Valley team ran the ball in to secure the win, 18-12.

Following the Junior Pee Wees was the Pee Wee game, fifth- and sixth-graders. The Pee Wee Hitmen played against the Glendale Mustangs. The Mustangs scored quickly in the first quarter but the Hitmen battled hard, tying the game. They showed great character but came up short.

The Junior Hitmen, seventh- and eighth-graders, played the final game of the day. They were playing for the Alliance Youth Sports Spring State title against the South Phoenix Ducks, the only team they lost to in the regular season.

The Junior Hitmen dominated on both offense and defense, shutting out the Ducks with a 30-0 win for the state title.

The Hitmen have been a club for five seasons. They have produced championship teams in each of those seasons.

Anyone interested in joining the Hitmen Youth Football and Cheer Club, registration takes place from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m., May 17, at Dicks Sporting Goods in Prescott Valley.
