Bradshaw Mtn. opens 3-0 at tourney
The Bears are enjoying their season-opening run at the Apollo Tournament in Glendale, after a 5-4 win over the host Knights on Friday improved Bradshaw to 3-0 on the young spring season.
Tied 4-4, Bradshaw's D.J. Irwin put the Bears ahead in the top half with a sacrifice fly that proved to be the game-winner.
Dallas Riggs had a triple, double, and an RBI for Bradshaw.
Bradley Denny, Gunner Bunderick and Jeremy Moyer each knocked RBI-singles.
On the mound, Bobby Simmons came in for 3 1/3 innings of one-run relief with two strikeouts. Moyer picked up the save with 2 1/3 innings of scoreless, no-hit ball.
Friday's win came after the Bears opened play Thursday with two shutouts in their doubleheader opener; a 14-0 win over La Joya and a 3-0 win over Ironwood.
Denny belted a two-run home run in the season opener, and then picked up the win on the mound in the Ironwood shutout. Bryan Villagran went 3-for-4 in the Ironwood win, and Tony Pins collected an RBI-triple.
Tournament play continues Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch against Tolleson.
