Yavapai Cup youth soccer tourney in Prescott Valley during April
Special to the Tribune

The 19th annual Yavapai Cup youth soccer tournament arrives in Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and Prescott the weekends of April 5-7 for the boys and April 12-14 for the girls. Yavapai Soccer hosts the largest soccer tournament in the quad-city area and it is projected to be the 7th largest soccer tournament in the state of Arizona.

More than 185 teams are expected for the event bringing 7-18 year old boys and girls. Teams are coming from across Arizona as well as Nevada and California. Local teams from Prescott and Prescott Valley are adding to the competition.

The participating soccer clubs are bringing more than 5,000 visitors with an estimated economic impact of more than $3.5 million over the two weekends. The tournament is being played on 17 soccer fields in Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott.

Restaurants will see an influx of patrons, while convenience stores and other retailers also feel the impact. Some area hotels such as the Hampton Inn in Prescott Valley expect to be completely full for both weekends, primarily because of the tournament.

The growth of the tournament is currently limited only by soccer field space. Some visiting teams had to be turned away because of renovations on some fields and lack of access to fields administered by the City of Prescott.

Yavapai Soccer, a non-profit youth sport organization operated by volunteers, offers a wide range of opportunities to boys and girls who are interested in playing soccer, from Prescott Valley and Prescott to Dewey-Humboldt and Mayer. More information is available at
