The Arizona Sundogs split this past weekend's games in Prescott Valley with the Allen Americans, then beat the Central Hockey League's No. 1 team in a Monday matinee in Texas. Arizona forward Chad Nehring continues to lead the league this season in goals scored with 25, even though Monday's game saw his 13-game point streak come to an end.

On the way to Arizona's 4-3 overtime victory Friday night, Nehring opened scoring early in the first period. Jason Morgan and Derek LeBlanc assisted on Nehring's 23rd goal of the season.

Johan Ryd and Zack Firlotte helped Jeff Kyrzakos put the Sundogs up 2-0 before the Americans got on the board late in the first frame.

Allen equalized in the second period, and pulled ahead in the third. But Matt McCready, who joined the Sundogs in mid-December, knotted the score just 12 seconds before regulation ended when Arizona pulled goalkeeper Adam Russo in favor of an extra attacker,.

Kevin Petovello delivered the game winner less than two minutes into OT.

Russo recorded 27 blocked shots on a night the Sundogs outshot the Americans 42-30.

Many of the nearly 3,500 fans in attendance for Saturday's "Black Out" game were garbed in black, and 1,000 of them received Sundogs mascot Burnie bobblehead souvenirs.

Although both teams bombarded the net - Russo blocked 44 shots to Allen's Steve Silverthorn's 47 saves - the Americans came out ahead 2-1. For his efforts, Russo on Tuesday received the Oakley CHL Goaltender of the Week award.

Allen put the first point up midway through the initial period. Nehring's 24th goal - Arizona's only one of the evening - made it 1-1 on the power play seconds after he was released from the penalty box with the Sundogs skating 5 on 4.

Allen's game winning shot came with less than three-and-a-half minutes to play.

The Sundogs got Monday afternoon's first goal just 4:26 into the opening period on a Petovello shot. Assist credits went to Cody Purves and Ron Meyers.

Meyers got his second point of the game on a goal of his own two minutes later, as Petovello returned the favor along with Purves.

Allen would narrow the gap on a power play goal before the first frame ended, and added the equalizer early in the second.

Meyers gave the game to Arizona on a go-ahead goal with 2:22 to play in the third.

David Brown earned the win in net with 20 saves, as Arizona outshot Allen 32-22.

The Sundogs played their fourth game in five days yesterday in Tulsa, after the Tribune's press time.

They are home for two games with the Quad City Mallards this weekend. Arizona fans will have to come out in droves to come close to the Mallards' latest attendance figures. Quad City routed the Denver Cutthroats 7-1 Saturday night in front of a home crowd of 9,347, the CHL's largest this season. (Tim's Toyota Center holds about 5,000.) Mallards to watch: Mickey Lang and Mike Stinziani, who each recorded a hat trick on Saturday. Lang also earned CHL Player of the Week.

Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
