It took four games the second time, but the Bradshaw Mountain Lady Bears defeated the Chino Valley Lady Cougars twice in a week, avenging their 2011 season losses.

Bradshaw downed the Lady Cougars in three games, 25-20, 25-20, 28-26, on Thursday, Sept. 6, in Chino Valley, and this past Thursday, won 25-28, 19-25, 25-18, 25-22 at home.

At Chino, Taryn Zelaya led the Lady Bears with 8 kills and 5 blocks. Her teammates contributed: Kylie Morris, 6 kills, 3 blocks; Kirsten Smith, 17 assists, 4 kills; Kristen Jensen, 11 assists, 1 kill; and Madison Smith, 21 digs.

In the second match, the Lady Cougars jumped out to a 4-0 start in game three after tying at one game apiece with their second game victory. The game remained deadlocked from the 10th to the 15th point. Then double aces from Jensen on serve made it 17-15. Taylor Lamb's kill shot moved it to 18-16. A dink by Morris pushed it to 19-16 as Madison Smith began a 6-straight-point service that got them to 21-16. Chino staved off two game point attempts before the Lady Bears hit 25.

Chino again struck first in game four and ran the score to 10-8 before Bradshaw tied it up and forged ahead briefly.

With Chino fighting to extend the match and Bradshaw to end it, the two squads knotted the score at 15, 17, 19, 21 and 22, before a match-ending kill from Lamb.

The Lady Bears put up some big numbers at home against Chino: Morris, 14 kills, 8 blocks; Jensen, 19 assists; Payton Peoples, 10 kills; Kirsten Smith, 12 assists; and Zelaya, 9 kills, 6 blocks.

In between the matches with Chino Valley, Bradshaw dropped a match at Kingman to the Lady Bulldogs 25-19, 25-20, 25-18, on Sept. 11 and another to Mingus, 25-15, 25-16, 25-8, on Wednesday, Sept. 12.

At Kingman, Kylie Morris and Taryn Zelaya managed 6 and 4 kills, respectively, while Jensen had 12 assists.

Kirsten Smith added 10 assists at both Mingus and Kingman.

Morris had 7 blocks and 5 kills at Mingus.
