Bradshaw Mountain's baseball Bears picked up a big 9-8 victory over Anthem Boulder Creek in extra innings in their home opener Friday.

"It was a big win for the program," Bradshaw head coach Randy Clifford said. "I don't know if our varsity boys have ever beaten Boulder Creek in any sport before."

The visiting Jaguars put numbers on the scoreboard first with a 4-run second inning. Bradshaw got two of those runs back in the bottom half, then tied it up and forged ahead 5-4 in the fourth.

Another 4-run inning gave Boulder Creek an 8-5 lead in the sixth, but the Bears refused to concede. The hosts' bats came alive in the bottom of the seventh, when Bryan Villagran singled, and Brody Clifford and Dallas Riggs each doubled. After Brent Dreibelbis sacrificed over Riggs, Christian McKay tripled to tie it 8-8 and force the game's extension.

Villagran led off the eighth with another double. The bags were loaded after BC intentionally walked Clifford and Riggs earned a base on balls. Senior Dreibelbis singled in the winning run.

"It was kind of a blooper like the Diamondbacks' game-winner from Luis Gonzales in the World Series, but you figure out a way to win, and we'll take it," Coach Clifford said with a laugh.

Bradshaw threw a quad of pitchers, starting with Kody Jones, who struck out 6 in 4 innings of work, and ending with Tony Pins, who earned the relief win in 1 1/3 innings.

The Bears suffered their first loss of the season Monday at Cactus Shadows, 12-2.

"We gave up seven runs in the fifth," Clifford said.

He also said the Cactus Shadows pitcher is headed for a good college program.

Villagran, Riggs and Pins each had a hit for the Bears.

Now 6-1, Bradshaw has four games this week, including a home contest against Prescott Thursday, at 3:45 p.m. This is a schedule change from Friday, because of a forecasted storm. Saturday the Bears travel to the Saguaro Tournament, which continues through Spring Break week.
