Bradshaw Mountain High's swimmers didn't bring home medals, but five of them now own school records and all eight achieved personal best times at the state swim meet this past weekend.

"We had incredible time drops from just one week ago," Bradshaw head coach Patti Eller said.

Kirsten Van Horne turned in the Bears' top performances, placing 7th in the 50-yard freestyle and 9th in the 100 free - breaking school records in both her senior year.

Her new 50 free mark of 25.18 seconds edged the old one of 25.73, and her 100 free of 55.82 seconds bettered the 56.75 of old by nearly two seconds.

Junior Cameron Blinston re-set the school record twice in the 200-yard Individual Medley, first in the preliminaries and again in the finals, where he placed 14th with a time of 2:13.18. Previous record holder Evan Morris (Class of 2004; 2:17.37) happily congratulated Blinston even after he saw his own record shattered by more than four seconds.

Blinston also placed 15th in the 500 free, again after twice dropping his time.

In the 100-yard butterfly, senior Robert Folmer, with 59.19, was just one one-hundredth of a second off the school record 59.18 Mike Ritch set in 2011. His prelim time was Folmer's personal best and good for 16th place.

Seniors Alec Serna and Rio Balsiger joined Folmer and Blinston in the 400 freestyle relay for an 11th-place finish and yet another school record.

They bettered the 2008 time of 3:39.02 set by Chris Dodson, Rian Mazza, Jake Balsiger and Kelly Hoffman by exactly one second with 3:38.02.

Van Horne and 200 free relay teammates Emily Stolz, Mikaela Paul and Rachel Campbell earned 14th place.

"Considering how much pool time we lost to lightning (with the extended monsoon season) we did exceptionally well," Eller said.
