PRESCOTT VALLEY - Spring has sprung and softball is in the air in Prescott Valley. The Bradshaw Mountain Lady Bears opened their home season on March 17 against the Varrado Vipers.

The Winter soccer home season has come to an end at Bradshaw Mountain H.S. The Bradshaw Bears played their last home game of the season on January 23, 2015 against the Mohave Thunderbirds. This last home game had a special meaning for seven of the Bear's players.

A newly formed adult amateur football team, the Northern Arizona Wolverines, is comprised of former high school varsity players who live and/or work in Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley or Dewey-Humboldt. Many are seeking another opportunity to play college ball, or have played some amateur/semi-pro football and want to continue. The team will begin play next month.

Borzello is BMHS Coach of Year; McKeown, assistant
It came as no surprise this past Tuesday night when Bradshaw Mountain Athletic Director Maury Ruble announced the school's coaches had voted boys' tennis coach Joe Borzello Coach of the Year.

"The award is for excellence on and off the field of competition," Ruble said.

In his fourth year at the helm, Borzello took his team to a fourth place finish at the State tournament, in the team's fourth consecutive appearance in the final four.

English and basketball 'body English' - Maury Ruble's legacy
Maury Ruble was "scared to death" when he came from Iowa as a 23-year-old to teach freshman English and coach at Bradshaw Mountain High School.

That was 15 years ago and Ruble no longer fears the future, even though he resigned as the school's athletic director without having accepted another job.

Bradshaw's Borzello is boys' tennis Coach of the Year

After the Bradshaw Mountain boys' tennis team's stellar season, coach Joe Borzello's peers in the West Valley 4A-I Region voted him Tennis Coach of the Year.

"Of course, it's more the team's achievement than my own, but still, it's quite an honor," Borzello said.

The Bears won the conference title in their first year moving up to 4A-Division I from 4A-D-II, on the heels of two straight titles in their previous region.

Sandberg brings home new 'disc' for 4th place throw

Although Dallas Sandberg placed ninth in disc at the 4A-I State Tack & Field Meet Saturday, he brought home a new metal disc - a medal for his fourth place finish in shotput.

The Bradshaw Mountain senior's 51-foot-11.5-inch shot heave was just one inch out of third place. The winning throw was 53-3.5.

Sandberg tossed the discus 133-feet-6-inches. First place was 159-4.
