Obituary: Betty C. (Hillis) Underwood

Betty C. (Hillis) Underwood, 59, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at Hospice Family Care in Prescott, Ariz.

Betty was born Nov. 19, 1954, in Smyrna, Tenn., and after marrying husband Larry, moved to Huber Heights, Ohio, where they resided for 35 years. Betty retired in April 2011 after 34 years of service from the Department of Defense as an intelligence analyst with the National Air and Space Intelligence Center, Wright-Patterson AFB, Dayton, Ohio.

After retirement, Betty and Larry moved from Huber Heights, Ohio, to Prescott Valley, Ariz., to be closer to the greatest joys in her life, her granddaughters, Addison and Ansley. Betty's other two loves were her dogs Harley and Sugar that she enjoyed walking on the scenic paths around her neighborhood. Among Betty's other activities she was involved with bible study and line dancing class, playing her piano, feeding the birds, tending to her flowers, hiking and riding her bicycle. She was an active member of the Prescott United Methodist Church.

Betty is survived by her parents, William L. and Dorothy M. Hillis; sister Debbie M. Hillis of Fairborn, Ohio; her husband of 40 years, Larry S. Underwood of Prescott Valley; son Joseph R. and daughter-in-law Elizabeth Underwood; granddaughters Addison and Ansley of Phoenix, Ariz.; and son William L. Underwood; and Andrea Hauer of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, July 29, 2014, from 3 to 7 p.m. at Werry Funeral Home, 615 S. Brewery St., New Harmony, Ind. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, in Werry Funeral Home followed by burial at her final resting place, Laurel Hill Cemetery in Wadesville, Ind. In lieu of flowers, you may make a monetary donation to The Prescott United Methodist Church, 505 West Gurley St., Prescott, AZ 86301, or any cancer research or treatment center of your choice.
