DEWEY - Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies are looking for suspects in a rash of thefts of golf and maintenance carts from the Quailwood subdivision and the Prescott Country Club off Highway 69.

Some Quailwood carts were taken by suspects who dumped them on the country club property, said Sheriff's spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn. In another theft, reported on Nov. 10, someone cut a chain-link fence at the country club's golf course maintenance yard and stole an electric utility cart.

A week prior, a cart from the Quailwood Greens Golf course was found behind a home in the Prescott Country Club.

Deputies believe the thieves are starting the carts with duplicate keys, D'Evelyn said. The carts have been recovered with structural damage from having been driven off-road.

The golf course greens have also been damaged because the grass was frosted over when the suspects drove on it.

"Although these acts may appear to be innocent pranks, they actually constitute serious felony charges" including theft of a means of transportation, trespassing, and criminal damage, D'Evelyn said.

YCSO is asking for the public's help in stopping the thefts, D'Evelyn said, noting that residents should look for activity "outside normal daytime business hours." The activity appears to be more frequent during weekend nights and school breaks.

If you have information, call YCSO at 928-771-3260 or make an anonymous call to Yavapai Silent Witness at 800-932-3232.
