PRESCOTT VALLEY - A 17-year-old boy crashed his pickup truck Sunday afternoon after texting while driving caused him to lose control, a PVPD spokesman said.
About 3:15 p.m. Sunday the boy, from Chino Valley, was headed east on Highway 89A near the Glassford Hill Road exit when, distracted by his texting, he drove off the road, tried to correct the error, and rolled his pickup once, throwing him out a side window, Sgt. Scott Stebbins said.
"Emergency medical responders were amazed that the driver suffered only minor injuries," Stebbins said, noting that the truck was a total loss.
The boy was cited for failing to control speed to avoid an accident and failure to wear a seatbelt, he added.
"This incident should serve as a reminder that texting and driving is extremely dangerous," Stebbins said.
