Police officers recognized for their efforts
Prescott Valley Tribune

Prescott Valley Police officers work daily to enforce laws, protect lives and property, and several officers have been recognized by the department and citizens they've helped, Prescott Valley Police Sgt. Brandon Bonney said.

Recently, Cpl. Shawn Caswell put out a fire in a vehicle where the driver was trapped after a serious collision, Bonney said.

At a Prescott Valley Town Council meeting, Interim Chief of Police James Edelstein recognized Detective Ed Bills for helping a Valley-area law enforcement agency on a child molestation case and noted that agency's chief also thanked Bills for his work.

Edelstein also recognized Cpl. Tom Grant for talking a woman out of trying to end her life and separating her from her weapon.

"The woman recently wrote a letter to the department thanking Grant for saving her life," Bonney said. "While not all outcomes are controllable in serious situations like this, the intervention of a trained officer can make the difference."

The Prescott Valley Police and other area agencies seek to provide a safe environment for citizens to live, play and thrive, Bonney said.

Prescott Valley Police encourage anyone who is in crisis and thinking about suicide, or knows someone who is, to seek help.

There are many resources, including West Yavapai Guidance Clinic at 928-445-5211, Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-Talk, Veterans Crisis Line at 1-800-273-8255 then press 1, Teen Lifeline AZ at 1-800-248-8336, Boys Town National Hotline at 1-800-448-3000 and Southwest Behavioral Health at 928-772-1610.

"You are important and there are other dedicated professionals willing to help you through a crisis," Bonney said.
