Child sex suspect reportedly blamed another man
Prescott Valley Tribune

PRESCOTT VALLEY - A man accused of sexual conduct with a 3-year-old girl who then attempted to shift the blame to another man has been charged.

Kristopher Jay Andrews, 38, was indicted on one count each of sexual conduct with a minor, witness tampering, and tampering with physical evidence.

He was arrested by Yavapai County Sheriff's deputies on Feb. 8 after a 5-year-old girl told her mother that Andrews had molested her, according to a YCSO probable cause statement. The girl reported the incident to her mother in May 2012, but detectives believe it occurred in October 2010, when the victim was 3 years old.

The mother confronted Andrews, who told her that the girl was wrong and that she was referring to someone else, who he named, but ultimately Andrews admitted to her that he had done it, the statement said.

Andrews took a polygraph test administered by an FBI agent and failed it. When confronted with the results, he told a detective that he didn't do it, again saying it wasn't him.

The detective said Andrews' story didn't make sense, and he confronted Andrews about why he was trying to "destroy another man's reputation" by claiming that man he did it, the statement said.

Eventually, Andrews said he "had been doing a lot of drugs," the statement said, and told the detective he had done it, but the details were "fuzzy."

He told detectives that it happened at a time when "he was viewing pornography and wasn't having sex with his wife" and was "taking a lot of prescription drugs," the statement said.

Andrews is being held without bond at the Camp Verde jail.

He's next set to appear in court on March 18.
