Central Yavapai and Prescott firefighters put out a fire Friday morning that a fire investigator determined started in the heating system and ductwork of a Prescott Valley furniture store, Central Yavapai Fire District spokesman Brad Davis said.
At 10:20 a.m., firefighters answered a call about a structure fire and saw light smoke coming from the roof and attic area of the 3,000-foot Finicky Used Furniture store in the 7200 block of East 1st St., Davis said.
"Employees in the store hit the fire with extinguishers before we arrived by getting up on a rolling ladder," Davis said. "It was a good thing the employees were there and took quick action."
Three Central Yavapai fire engines, a Prescott engine, a fire investigator and battalion chief responded to the fire, Davis said.
Smoke was seen in the business, so employees were evacuated. No one was injured, Davis said.
Firefighters put out the fire in 10 minutes and stayed around to clean up the store after the fire investigator finished her work, Davis said.
The fire was contained to the ductwork and caused an estimated $4,000 to $5,000 in damage, Davis said.
"There was no specific cause of the fire, but the investigator said it started in the heating system and ductwork," Davis said. "I'm not sure if it's still under investigation."
