Yavapai Silent Witness is offering a $5,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest of Wade C. Dickinson, who escaped Saturday from the Camp Verde jail.

Detention officers at the jail did not realize Dickinson had escaped until they received a phone call reporting a possible escapee trying to steal a car, a YCSO spokesman said.

Dickinson, 28, was sentenced to 24.5 years in state prison last Wednesday after pleading guilty to two counts of fraudulent schemes and artifices, misconduct involving weapons by a prohibited possessor, possession of dangerous drugs, and trafficking in stolen property in the first degree.

YCSO spokesman Dwight D'Evelyn said an investigation had been launched to determine how Dickinson was able to break out unseen. There are normally detention officers supervising the recreation yard, he said, adding the "internal review is ongoing," and that "efforts are focused on finding Dickinson."

Sheriff Scott Mascher said, "We definitely want to make sure if something wasn't right, we don't do it again.

"The first question I had was the classification of inmates," Mascher said. "When someone is sentenced, their classification changes, as to how we manage that inmate and secure them within the facility."

Dickinson "was able to scale a wall in the rec yard, (and) separate overhead fencing to access the roof area," D'Evelyn said. "He attempted a vehicle theft from a business in front of the jail, and when the owners came outside, he ran."

After the owners reported what they had seen, D'Evelyn said, the jail was locked down for a head count.

Yavapai Silent Witness is offering the reward for information that leads to his arrest. He is 6 feet, 1 inch tall; has brown hair and eyes; and weighs about 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white button-down shirt, khaki pants, and dirty dark socks. Dickinson has family in the Camp Verde and Prescott Valley areas.

Tip calls to Silent Witness at 1-800-932-3232 are anonymous.

Dickinson is a fugitive and anyone who helps him also could be charged with a crime.
