The Yavapai County Community Health Center (YCCHS) has three full-time certified application counselors stationed in Prescott, Prescott Valley and Cottonwood, ready to help you understand how the Affordable Care Act and the new "insurance marketplace" will affect you. The counselors can also help you understand which of the six insurance companies and 74 different policies have healthcare providers in Yavapai County and which do not.

On March 31, the "marketplace" closes and, without a qualifying event, like losing a job that provided insurance, you will have to wait until October of this year to get insurance through the marketplace. People without insurance in 2014 may be subject to the "Individual Responsibility Requirement" fine for not having insurance. The fine can be as much as 1 percent of your household's annual income (example: $400 for a family making $40,000 per year).

One benefit of purchasing insurance through the marketplace is that if you are making less than 400 percent of the Federal Poverty Level, you may be eligible for a tax subsidy to help pay the monthly premium.

If you make 133 percent or less of the Federal Poverty Level, you may qualify for Medicaid/AHCCCS in 2014, even if you do not have a dependent child. YCCHS can help you with either application, but time is running out to get insurance through the Marketplace.

For more information, visit YavapaiHealth.com and click on the Affordable Care link at the top or call 442-5208 to set up an appointment with a certified application counselor near you.
