March election: Pool of potential PV Town Council candidates growing

The potential pool for candidates for the Town Council in next year's election grew this week with retired letter carrier Marty Grossman picking up the paperwork.

Grossman and Matt Zurcher, who chairs the Government Affairs Committee of the Prescott Valley Chamber of Commerce, plan to run next March for a two-year seat on the council, according to Town Clerk Diane Russell.

Council appointees Don Tjiema and Michael Whiting plan to run for four-year seats, Russell said.

The council will have at least one vacancy because Patty Lasker said she will not seek re-election.

Council members run separately from mayoral candidates. Incumbent Mayor Harvey Skoog faces potential challenges next March 12 from Stephen Marshall, Louie Lizza and Lisa Imburgia, who unsuccessfully challenged Skoog in 2009.

All the prospective candidates except Imburgia have filed statements of organizations or threshold statements, which they must do before seeking petitions from registered voters, Russell said. Candidates who do not plan to raise and spend more than $500 may file threshold statements.

Prospective candidates must submit petitions with at least 284 signatures from registered voters who are Prescott Valley residents by the Dec. 12 deadline.
